Since October 2012, and in close cooperation with the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and the Global and European Studies Institute (GESI) offer a new, interdisciplinary M.A. study programme in the field of Global Studies with a special emphasis on ‘Peace and Security in Africa’.
This two year master's course is taught completely in English by scholars both from Leipzig and Addis Ababa. At both cooperating universities - Addis Ababa (three semesters) and Leipzig (one semester) - it integrates the subject of ‘Peace and Security in Africa’ into the GESI’s well-established Global Studies study program. As such, the new emphasis given to a very successful M.A. course is looking for answers to the need to be more inclusive to African students and to discuss more in depth Africa and its specific contemporary and regional challenges in a global perspective.
